In Africa the percentage of people lacking safe drinking water is very high. The water is often polluted, and many people become chronically weakened by (water borne) diseases. In areas where water is not available, a great deal of effort is needed to obtain clean (drinking) water.
The target group for the LifeStraw Family consists mostly of poor rural people of emerging countries who, in general, are not educated. The percentage of illiteracy is very high. Mijksenaar developed the different and various cultures visual instructions for the LifeStraw Family.
